2007 Camp Shopbots

Paul6
We held our first Camp of the New year at what has become our “traditional”kick off Camp -Marietta, GA. Our host Ed Conley has been expanding his business over the last year, and he’s added another PRT (Alpha) to his shop’s arsenal.
One thing which became immediately clear was that the ‘Botters in Georgia have been doing their homework since last year’s Camp! There were many new projects, and skil,on display this time around. Some of the highlights were;
Paul Nielsen’s tribal masks, which he carved out of MDF, and then top coated with the coatings by Sculpt Nouveau

Another new idea for using the Shopbot was presented by Robert Ball who has become an authority on building “bat houses “. He works with “Habitats for Bats”and builds numerous lodgings for the little winged critters, as well as helping to educate the public and schools about their habits.
Tom Lang showed us pictures of his “highly modified”PR machine (2 ft. by 20 ft) which he uses to cut planks for mahogany runabout speedboats. He took us through an entire boat from design to launch.
Andy Lang, Charles Kurak ,Dan Dunn, and Rodney Brown all explained how they created everything from furniture to signs, so we had quite a wide range of skills covered. Looks like we might have to switch to a 2 day format for this Camp next year…
