2009 Upland, CA Camp Shopbot

Teardrop

On Saturday March 21st, we held our Southern California Camp in Upland, CA at Gabe Pari’s shop. Gabe uses his machine to make a wide variety of products , and one of them is the Teardrop trailer ( and kit) pictured above. He also showed off some products which have been thermoformed from molds he is building on his machine.
As the day went on we got to see a pretty wide range of pieces ranging from cabinets, to magician’s props.
Robert Chubb did a session on some software he has written to use continual spiral cutting techniques for spherical shaped products. He also showed some nested bowls he’s created with the project, and an interlocking joint for planking small boats.
Clay Reid did a demo of his “ EasyCab” cabinet design software, and Roger Kirkpatrick followed that up with some Show and Tell examples of how he uses Clay’s program to build some of his cabinets.
Jay Leslie brought in a wide variety of pieces ranging from lithophanes, to faces on name badges, and a wooden lock.
John Arnott showed off some signage he created using the “ Aspire” program.
Tom Sansoterra showed pix of some modifications he’s done to his machine which will allow consistent alignment of materials.
And after lunch Gabe showed off a new product he and his wife are marketing which involves Gabe making “ molds” out of HDPE that allow his wife to place cupcakes into unusual shapes, and then she glazes the entire batch into what appears to be a solid cake. When the cake was ready to serve we took off the border strip and each picked out our own cupcakes….
We got to see some new plastic sheet goods, and we also learned just how cool the Teardrop trailers really are.
