This marked the seventh year in a row John Forney has held a Camp at one of his shops. And this was the first at his new shop in Marion, OH.
Thursday started out with a series of sessions geared toward cabinet making. John spoke about some of the techniques he uses, and Ryan Patterson gave a demonstration of ways to build cabinets using his software package, Cabinet Parts Pro.
Then there were a few vendor presentations geared toward the cabinet trade with demos of plywood, pre made doors, etc., and John showed a method of applying veneer to sheet materials using a vacuum bag.
Tony McKenzie offered some tips on the use of keyboard shortcuts in the Vectric line of software products.
Friday saw a few more vendor sessions. One of them was from Onsrud and the rep went over tips regarding the proper use of bits, in specific materials, etc. There was also a session by a spokesman from a company supplying materials for spray booths.
David Buchsbaum did a “slide show” of pix which showed off some of the techniques he’s generated in the last few years to get some very unique pieces created.
On both days Ben McCoy brought a group of technology students from London OH, high school to see the kind of work we were doing with the Shopbot.( They are already using an Alpha, and have another machine on the way).
Ted Hall described some of the latest developments down in Durham, as well as some of the scheduled events planned for the upcoming Jamboree in Austin, TX.
Tony McKenzie then did a complete survey of all the products available in the Vectric line, and did a program by program demo.
Saturday started with a session by the rep from Titebond glues, who spoke about which wood glues are most applicable in specific applications.
Russ Wood followed with a showing of some of the after market parts he has created to be used with the Shopbot. He had his marking pen, vinyl knife, and glass/granite etchers on display. He also had vacuum pods/tables as well.
Paul Nielsen gave a lecture/demo of the products available from Sculpt Nouveau. He showed off finished pieces, and then painted a few pieces so we could see the process as it developed. (See photo above…)
We spent lunch time looking over the wide assortment of Show and Tell items. We had everything from melted glass to airplane propellers…
And Tony McKenzie wrapped it up with some glimpses into the future of Vectric’s software line….
